This year is shaping to be another busy one for Mineral Technologies as its global teams demonstrate the latest mineral processing solutions at major exhibitions and conferences worldwide.
General Manager, Metallurgy, Equipment and Technology, Alex de Andrade, said that attending and exhibiting at major conferences and tradeshows in key regions provides Mineral Technologies valuable opportunities to meet new customers and share the latest knowledge with the aim of helping to improve process operations.
“We appreciate that customers have very busy schedules, so we look for opportunities to meet and share the latest information about new technologies and process solutions at events that fit within their schedules,” said Alex.
In July, the Australian team exhibited at the AusIMM Iron Ore conference in Perth, Australia. Of keen interest was the work with Roy Hill, a 55 million tonne per annum (Mtpa) iron ore mining, rail and port operation in West Australia’s Pilbara region. As beneficiaries of an Australian Government METS Ignited Collaborative Project Fund, Mineral Technologies is collaborating with Roy Hill to automate the sample splitting system in their gravity separation spiral process. This will be used in the mine to optimise the separation of higher value concentrate from lower grade ore in preparation for export.

In August, the South African team exhibited at the Heavy Minerals Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. With the conference focused on process and optimisation, the local team presented Mineral Technologies’ working knowledge of heavy minerals in the region, in particular with Richards Bay Minerals, South Africa’s largest mineral sands producer and beneficiation company. Mineral Technologies has supplied mineral processing solutions to Richards Bay Minerals for more than 40 years and was recently engaged by HATCH to deliver detailed design for the spiral concentrator plant as well as separation equipment to the new Zulti South project in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province. Joining the local team was Regional Manager – North America, Pete Dunn, who assisted the RSA team by sharing information about Mineral Technologies’ recent work with Chemours and Southern Ionics Minerals (recently acquired by Chemours). This work includes novel designs for wet concentrator plants (WCP), a mineral separation plant (MSP) and the supply of multiple mobile mining units (MMU) for projects in Florida and Georgia.

The world’s premier mineral exploration and mining convention PDAC provided the North American team the opportunity to meet with customers in the region. This included updates on work with ArcelorMittal’s Mont Wright operation which has more than 9,000 Iron Ore spiral starts installed. The team also profiled a recent upgrade project with Quebec Iron Ore (QIO) which is one of Canada’s long-life iron ore mines. In late 2018 Mineral Technologies completed design and delivery of an upgraded recovery circuit for QIO which includes gravity and magnetic equipment from Mineral Technologies equipment range. The upgraded recovery circuit is achieving the targeted 66% Fe iron concentrate with first shipment delivered in February 2018.
Proving another opportunity to meet with customers in North America, the local team attended the annual SME (Society for Mining, Metallurgy and exploration) conference and exhibition in February in Denver, Colorado. Key focus points of the conference were meeting with key customers in the industrial minerals sector, profiling the full breadth of Mineral Technologies design and support services beyond spirals, and the recent commissioning of mobile mining unit (MMU) technology in the southeast USA mineral sands industry.
One of the largest mining exhibitions in Latin America, Exposibram runs from 9-12 September in Belo Horizonte. The local Mineral Technologies team will be in attendance demonstrating the new SP100 hydrocyclone and CT1 spiral. The team is looking forward to welcoming visitors to exhibition stand E14. Immediately following Exposibram, the team will be attending Perumin in Peru.
Mineral Technologies’ team based in India will be attending IME from 6-9 November. This event is a leading institutionalised biennial international exhibition of the Mining, Minerals, Metals and Machinery industries and is being held at Eco Park, Rajarhat, Kolkata. The local team will showcase Mineral Technologies capabilities in coal which includes the new low-cut point LC3 spiral. Mineral Technologies has been operating in India for more than 30 years and offers end-to-end solutions including in-house capabilities for process flowsheet design, proprietary equipment supply, modular plant engineering and project delivery. The team looks forward to welcoming visitors to the exhibition stand at IME 2019.
