In April, Mineral Technologies’ North American team attended the Canadian Mineral Processors (CMP) Conference for the Cote Nord-Labrador region of Canada. The conference included a visit to the local Cégep de Sept-Îles College where Quebec Iron Ore and Mineral Technologies have donated a spiral test rig to the college’s metallurgical laboratory.
The donation of the test rig was spearheaded by Quebec Iron Ore’s Francois Lavoie who is also the regional leader for CMP in the Cote Nord-Labrador region. Francois said that the aim of the spiral test rig is to give students the opportunity to gain practical experience as part of their mineral processing studies.
“We believe it is important for students to get hands-on experience of metallurgical testing environments prior to arriving on-site in mining operations,” Francois said. “We are delighted with the support from suppliers, and recognise Mineral Technologies for leading the design, manufacturing and commissioning of the test rig. Importantly, the test rig incorporates the latest MD wash-water spiral technology. Currently in operation at our Bloom Lake project, the wash-water spiral housed in the test rig will enable students to work with the very latest processing technology”.
Practical Experience for Students
Cégep de Sept-Îles offers a mineral technology course designed to equip students for careers in the mining industry. The college boasts a state-of-the-art metallurgical testing laboratory where students can learn how to conduct test work on a wide range of ores. Representatives from Quebec Iron Ore, Mineral Technologies and Cégep de Sept-Îles recently visited the college to announce the donation of the spiral test rig.
