Watch 3D Flythrough of our work on the Coburn Mineral Sands Project in WA
The Coburn Mineral Sands Project is Strandline Resources’ flagship asset, located in regional Western Australia.
About the Coburn Mineral Sands Project
The processing plant scope is designed and delivered in partnership with Primero and Mineral Technologies, to produce high-value, critical minerals of –
- Premium Zircon
- Zircon Concentrate
- Ilmenite
- Rutile
The Coburn project consists of the following main areas.
- Interface with Dozer Mining Units (DMU)
- Wet Concentrator Plant (WCP)
- Mineral Separation Plant (MSP)
- Site Infrastructure
Our Processing Plant Design
The WCP is designed to process 3,000tph low grade ore, producing 30tph heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) for further processing at the MSP. The WCP’s processing circuit incorporates Mineral Technologies’ innovative Lyons Feed Control Unit (LFCU) technology and industry leading gravity separation equipment.
The MSP then operates utilising a combination of wet and dry separation equipment to produce the final saleable products. This circuit includes Mineral Technologies’ dry separation equipment – Rare Earth Roll (RER), Rare Earth Drum (RED) & Induced Roll Magnetic Separators (IRMS) – working in conjunction with a wet circuit of Mineral Technologies’ spiral separators.
The project involved a fast-tracked detail design schedule for both the MSP & WCP delivered to support an operational readiness target of first HMC production in December quarter 2022.
A Strandline, Primero and Mineral Technologies Collaboration
The design was a collaboration between Mineral Technologies & Primero. The Mineral Technologies’ engineering team completed the structural, mechanical, electrical and process aspects of the WCP & MSP, while Primero completed the design for concrete and non-process related services.
Mineral Technologies’ global mineral sands experience, and process design capability, ensured that the upfront design provided a cost-effective solution for extraction of valuable mineral from a larger shallow dunal deposit.
The lead project team could not have achieved the challenging milestones without the strong relationships developed between Strandline, Primero and Mineral Technologies – ensuring clear alignment through every stage of the project has been vital for the project success to date.
Processing Plant Project Delivery Timeline
Welcoming the new year, and now halfway through onsite construction, is a good time to reflect on key reasons the challenges of an integrated EPC delivery have been met.
The project team recognises the importance of ensuring:
- A collaborative and trusting partnership
- The right people on the right job
- Clear and concise communications
- Weekly design reviews
- HAZOP & stage gate design reviews
- Early procurement and global vendor data sourcing
- Staged release of design deliverables
- Locally based, reliable, quality OEM capability
The teams at Strandline, Primero & Mineral Technologies are proud of our achievements since commencement of the project in May-2021 and look forward to updating you on further project successes and milestones throughout 2022.
